Positions Available:

468. Youth Services Consultant (Part-time: 26 hours per week). DuPage Library System. The Youth Services Consultant works with member libraries' staff. Responsible for library services to youth, both in public and school libraries. The successful candidate will be under contract with DuPage Library System.
 
Education/Experience Requirements:
Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution; minimum of five years youth services experience in a public library, school library experience also desired; and three years supervisory experience.

    470. Reference Librarian (Part-time). Glenside Public Library District seeks an enthusiastic individual to work in our busy Adult Reference Department approximately 12.12 hours per week. This will include Monday night, Wednesday day, one Saturday per month, and one Sunday afternoon every five weeks. ALA/MLS required for this position. Salary range is $11.67-$17.51 per hour, depending on qualifications. Library experience required.

    473. Adult Services Reference Assistant (Part-time). West Chicago Public Library is seeking a service-oriented part-time Adult Services Reference Assistant. This position's major responsibility will be providing reference assistance at a busy medium-sized library on Sundays and two evenings per week, totaling 19 hours. An LTA certificate or equivalent experience in a public library is required. Internet skills and/or Spanish language skills are preferred. Minimum salary is $7.60/hour, DOQ.     474. Library Media Specialist. Indian Prairie School District #204 has at least three elementary (K-5) Library Media Specialist positions available for the 1999-2000 school year and one half-time middle school position available January 4, 1999. Also, there is an additional opening for a full-time high school Library Media Specialist.

    Located in the western suburbs of Aurora and Naperville, District #204 is a dynamic school district that values its media centers and staff. The Library Media Center facilities in District #204 are fully automated with circulation and catalog programs as well as a variety of databases and productivity software programs.

    The successful candidates must be energetic, demonstrate leadership skills, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be committed to resource-based instruction. The successful candidates must be comfortable with technology and be ready to serve as technology advocates and facilitators within the building.

    Minimum qualifications include 18 semester hours in library science/media and a valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate, although the preferred candidate will have a Masters Degree in Library Science and/or a type 10 Certification in Instructional Media.     475. Librarian/Media Specialist. Leyden High Schools District 212. East Leyden High School and West Leyden High School, both recognized by the U.S. Office of Education for excellence in education, are comprehensive high schools located in northwest suburban Chicago. Our 3,150 culturally diverse students are served by 211 teachers, 73% of whom have master's degrees or beyond.
     
    Our media departments are the core of our schools and feature five professional librarians and nine support staff members, a book collection of over 60,000 titles, extensive collections of microform, art prints, periodicals, and reference materials, and a central audio-visual department with a well-qualified director and an extensive film library and equipment inventory. Each media center has 40+ networked computer workstations with full T1 Internet access. Extensive online and CD-ROM databases are available.
     
    Qualifications:
    MLS from an accredited program with prior classroom or educational experience and knowledge of electronic information sources. Duties will include reference work, cataloging, collection development, technology management, reading advisory, and some audio-visual responsibilities. We are seeking an individual who is energetic, knowledgeable, current, and creative.

    479. Circulation Services Technical Assistant: Clerk V. Lisle Library District. Full-time (37.5 hours/week) position with salary range of $16,575-$22,500 DOQ, plus benefits.

    Person will attend all circulation tasks, manage the hardware and software maintenance of public-use PCs, and assist the department head in the administration of the library automation system.

    Positive, detail-oriented person with excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills needed by busy service-oriented public library.     Completion of a Master's Degree in Library Science or the curriculum requirements for a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Personnel Management, Business, Industrial Relations, or related field; and three years of professional level experience in organizational development, teaching, or public presentations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience is required. Focus will be on training for computer literacy and staff development. Applicants must have good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 97.

    497. Illinois State Library, Institute for School and Public Librarians. June 13-18, 1999. The Illinois State Library announces that applications are being accepted to attend the annual Institute for School and Public Librarians. This week of library-related educational activities is scheduled for Sunday, June 13 through Friday, June 18, 1999 on the campus of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. This Institute is sponsored in cooperation with Bradley University. The cost to attend is $50, which includes accommodations, parking, all meals, and all handouts and materials.   • Navigating the Web with Netscape Navigator (April 8, 9:30-12:00; C.E. #2046)
  • These hands-on workshops will introduce participants to some of the most compelling features offered by these titans of the browser wars. Registration limited to 20 per program.

  • Technology Managers SIG Meeting (April 20, 9:30-12:00 (please note time change from that listed in DLS CE Calendar); C.E. #2048)

    502. St. Charles, Illinois Local History Archive. The St. Charles, Illinois Local History Archive is an online collection of resources for the study of the history of St. Charles and the northern Illinois region in which it is located. Its mission is to provide access to materials of historical interest and to provide a medium for teaching the history of St. Charles and its relationship to national events.
