300. Library Assistant (Part-time). Louis W. Biegler Library, Illinois Institute of Technology, Wheaton Campus. Reporting to the Head Librarian, the Library Assistant is responsible for the timely, efficient, and courteous provision of service to the patrons of the Biegler Library. In addition, the Library Assistant may assume certain administrative responsibilities in the absence of the Head Librarian.
Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have experience in the library/information field or its equivalent. The successful applicant will also have outstanding written and oral communication skills, the ability to interact effectively with library colleagues and all members of the university community, and the ability to flourish in a rapidly changing library environment. Knowledge of, or exposure to, computer programs such as Microsoft Word or Access, cataloging systems, serial cataloging, Illinet Online, DRA and electronic databases is desirable. Most importantly, the successful applicant will have the desire to improve their knowledge of libraries through work experience and/or continued education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of, or exposure to, the engineering, business or current technology field, its literature and terminology, and/or evidence of professional activity and development in any of these areas is highly desirable.
Salary and Conditions of Employment:
This position offers flexible working hours, 11-22 hours per week - although Saturdays are required. Salary will be competitive and based on the applicant's qualifications.
Illinois Institute of Technology: IIT is a doctoral granting, research university four miles south of Chicago's Loop. The university focuses on engineering, science and professional studies including law, business, architecture and design. The main campus and a number of its buildings were designed by Mies van der Rohe.
Louis W. Biegler Library: The Louis W. Biegler Library is located on IIT's Rice Campus in Wheaton. The 3500+ volume library provides access to IIT's main library, the Paul V. Galvin Library, its collection, and access to electronic databases and other resources. The small staff at Biegler prides itself on being able to provide access to materials and information required by its patrons as quickly as possible.

301. Young Adult Librarian. The Bartlett Public Library District is seeking a dynamic individual to continue our firm commitment to service to young adults in seventh grade through high school. This full-time position includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours. The successful candidate will be responsible for collection development, readers' advisory, reference work at the Young Adult and Adult Desks, programming, and outreach to the schools. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. An applicant should have the MLS degree, LTA degree, or equivalent library experience. Salary from $24,000 depending on qualifications. 302. Circulation/Technical Services Clerk III. Bloomingdale Public Library. Full-time position (37.5 hours per week); includes, day, evening, and weekend hour work in the Circulation Department. Responsible for follow-up on missing, assumed lost and claims returned items. Responsible for follow-up on overdue materials, including collection service. Provide descriptive cataloging for new materials. Utilize the OCLC cataloging utility, review MARC records for library materials using the OCLC cataloging utility. Enter short bibliographic records for library materials in the database. Edit previously cataloged materials in the database. Assume responsibility for Circulation/Technical Services Department when assigned. Perform other circulation duties that assist with maintaining processes relating to organization of library collections. Interpersonal skills for working with patrons, library staff, and general public. Education level: LTA degree. At least two years' library experience required. Minimum salary: $13.00 per hour. 303. Youth Services Department Head. Roselle Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and experienced librarian to provide library service for children ages preschool through 6th grade and their parents or caregivers. Responsible for collection development, planning and conducting programs, staff supervision and training, and direct public service. Must have knowledge of children's literature, reference materials, electronic resources, Internet searching and general public library policies, issues and methods. Must enjoy working with the public and demonstrate a commitment to service to children. MLS from an ALA-accredited library school, supervisory experience and public library work with children required. Minimum salary $34,614 negotiable based upon experience. Full benefits package. 305. Library Assistant (Part-time). Warrenville Public Library District. $8.00/hour, (19/hrs). Para-professional position. Duties entail searching local, regional, state, national and worldwide online library catalogs to fulfill patron requests for library materials. Assists Reference Librarians with the acquisition and tracking of all requests to assure timely delivery and return of materials. Includes some evenings, and weekends and work at the Circulation Desk as needed. Detail oriented. Ability to be flexible, a team player and dedicated to excellent public service. High School diploma and computer experience required. LTA Certificate or college coursework preferred. Growing library district (new building to break ground in April 2000) with vibrant Young People's Department seeks a dynamic individual to perform reference, collection development, and programming duties. This full-time position requires an ALA-accredited M.L.S., a familiarity with and appreciation for children's literature, good oral and written communication skills, and knowledge of IBM PC software applications. Willingness to tell stories to kindergarten through 8th graders, ability to plan and execute storytimes for preschoolers and toddlers, and familiarity with GEAC OPAC environment a plus. Involves evening and weekend hours. Will consider part-time or current library science student. Salary range begins at $28,500. 308. Adult Services Librarian I (Part-time). Elmhurst Public Library. 18.5 hours per week (12 hours scheduled at reference desk plus 6.5 "flextime" hours for other responsibilities); requires some evening and weekend work in addition to daytime hours. Flexibility to work additional hours desired. We need an energetic librarian with a good sense of humor to work at our reference desk, manage part of our collection and do reader's advisory. You will be part of a team of 11 reference librarians who use a 230,000-volume collection and electronic resources to answer more than 100 reference questions a day. ALA-accredited MLS required; minimum of one year of public library adult reference experience required. Pay range begins at $15.71 per hour; higher depending on qualifications. 309. Librarian II-Internet Services and Reference. Elmhurst Public Library. Full-time position coordinating the library's internet information services to the community as well as reference, collection management and readers' advisory service to the general public. Flexibility and a good sense of humor are essential. Will work as part of a team of 11 reference librarians who use a 220,000-volume collection and electronic resources to answer more than 100 reference questions a day. 310. Cataloger (Part-time). Elmhurst Public Library. (18/hours). Responsible for performing original and copy cataloging of materials in all formats using AACR2, Dewey classification, LC subject headings, OCLC, and Innovative Interfaces on-line catalog. Serve as resource to cataloging clerks. Strong service orientation and ability to foster a cooperative working environment. Must be flexible and open to change. Requires ALA/MLS. 311. Library Outreach Assistant (Part-time). Gail Borden Library. New 28 hour/week position. Primary duties are scheduling, planning and presenting story programs to young children in group settings, preparing publicity and information for this audience, and serving as liaison to their teachers and caregivers. Two years of college, experience with young children, basic computer literacy and a valid Illinois driver's license are required. 312. Head Librarian/Director. Plano Community Library, Plano, IL, a community of 5,500, located 60 miles west of Chicago, is seeking an innovative director with an ALA/MLS. Requirements are strong management skills and a thorough knowledge of administrative duties. Knowledge of library issues, grant writing capabilities and library automation are a must. Experience in fundraising and/or building projects preferred. Minimum starting salary of $38,000 plus retirement plan, paid vacation and sick days. Resumes will be reviewed as received. 313. Youth Services Librarian. Round Lake Area Library, Round Lake, IL. Small but soon-to-be expanding public library is seeking a creative, service-oriented Youth Services Librarian to join the department head and one other professional librarian in providing services for youth and adults. The library serves a culturally diverse and growing population of 28,000 people in the far northwestern Chicago metropolitan area. Duties and responsibilities include: providing reference and readers' advisory services for youth and adults; planning, publicizing, and presenting children's programs; collection development, instructing patrons in the use of the library and its resources. Qualifications: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program with coursework in children's services or equivalent experience and education; prior computer experience with online and CD-ROM databases preferred; ability to work days, evenings, and weekends, 37½ hours per week. Ability to speak Spanish a plus. Salary from $29,713, depending on qualifications. 314. Clerical (Part-time). Audio Visual Institute of DuPage (AVID). AVID is a consortium library of the school districts of DuPage County. Our patrons are the teachers, students, and administrators. This position would offer 4-5 days per week, 6-8 hours per day. The duties include:
- Call-in reference support - placing reserves, conducting searches for audio/visual information tied to curricula needs, assisting users with Internet access to our catalog, and other AVID web resources.
- ERIC document retrieval.
- Collection support - data entry of cataloging records, periodical control, packaging for shelving.
